1a.) Introduction to Photography (beginners) : $227

This course includes a general survey of photographic equipment and technique, aperture and shutter control, basic exposure, focus control, depth-of-field, motion capture, and basic composition theory.  This course also includes weekly evaluation of students' shooting and improvement.  No previous knowledge of photography is required, however students will need a camera with full manual capabilities (preferably an SLR/DSLR).  Upon completion of the course, students should possess a good understanding of their equipment, as well as basic technical and compositional strategies.  (note: there is an extended version of this class - see next class) (or choose the extended version - see next class: 1b.)

This course lasts  4 weeks (two hours per week). 
Three class times to choose from:
                                         Monday August 9, 2010 at 9:30-11:30 (four consecutive Mondays)
                                         Monday August 9, 2010 at 5:45-7:40pm (four consecutive Mondays)

1 seat leftCourse includes a general survey of photographic equipment and technique, including the operational anatomy of cameras, aperture and shutter control, basic exposure, focus control, depth-of-field, motion capture, intermediate exposure techniques, and basic composition theory.  This course also includes weekly evaluation of students' shooting and improvement.  No previous knowledge of photography is required, however students will need a camera with full manual capabilities (preferably an SLR).  Upon completion of the course, students should possess a good understanding of their equipment, as well as basic technical and compositional strategies. 


This course lasts  6 weeks (two hours per week).

                                         Monday August 9, 2010 at 9:30-11:30 (Six consecutive Mondays)
                                         Monday August 9, 2010 at 5:45-7:40pm (Six consecutive Mondays)

2) Point-and-Shoot Photography (beginners): $197

Course includes a general survey of consumer-photography issues, including a buyer's guide to cameras, using the automatic functions of your camera, understanding memory and storage, printing issues, and basic composition strategy.  This course also includes weekly critiques of student's shooting.  No previous knowledge of photography is required, and any and all cameras are welcome.  Upon completion of this course, students should possess a good understanding of their camera's features, how to maximize the quality of their images, and improved composition skills. 

This course lasts 3 weeks (two hours per week).

3) Introduction to Digital Photography (beginners): $197

8 seats leftThis course includes an introduction to digital aspects of photography, including camera sensors, file sizes and image quality, memory and storage issues, white balance, printing and calibration, and basic post-production (Photoshop).  A prior knowledge of photography is helpful, but not required.  Upon completion of this course, students should have a strong grasp for everything that makes a camera and photographer in 2010 different from a camera and photographer in 1990. 

This course is 3 weeks ( 2 hours per week)

4) Photo 2: (intermediate): $337

8 seats leftThis course concentrates on the application of photographic principles toward aesthetic and creative goals, including advanced composition theory, assessment and development of photographic style, and an understanding of photography as an art form.  (and perhaps some history of photography).  A general knowledge of cameras and exposure is required for this course, and students must have access to a fully manual camera (SLR or medium-format is preferable).  Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of how to control every visual aspect of their pictures, and thus possess greater creative control over the way their images are perceived. 

 

This course lasts 6 weeks (nearly two hours per week).

                                         Tuesday September 7, 2010 at 9:30-11:30 (six consecutive Tuesdays)
                                         Tuesday September 7, 2010 at 5:45-7:40pm (six consecutive Tuesdays)

5) Photography 202: Studio Lighting (intermediate): $389

Course includes an introduction to studio equipment and techniques, including the use of strobes, ambient vs flash photography, studio accessories, metering strategies, and basic lighting set-ups.  A general knowledge of cameras and exposure is required for this course, and students must have access to an SLR camera.  Upon completion, students will have a good working knowledge of lighting equipment and strategies, as well as a better understanding of general photographic principles and problem-solving. 

This course lasts 5 weeks (nearly 2 hours per week) and begins on Thursday August 12, 2010 at 9:30 - 11:30am

6) Photography 203: Editorial (intermediate): $337

This course concentrates on the application of photographic principles toward communicative and narrative goals, including journalistic and documentary strategies for taking informative pictures, photographic people skills, legal issues, editing, and flash control.  A general knowledge of cameras and exposure is required for this course, and students must have access to a fully manual camera (SLR is preferable).  Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of how to control every communicative aspect of their pictures, and thus possess a greater narrative control over the way their images are perceived. 

This course lasts 6 weeks (nearly two hours per week) This class has not been scheduled for the July-August time period. Please ask if you want this class.

PhotoShop Classes 


7) Photoshop 101 (intro): $209

1 seat leftThis class concentrates on the features and what they can do to enhance your photographs. How to easily navigate through all of the windows, menus, and functions. Great for those who have little or NO photoshop experience. Topics covered: monitor calibration, file types (jpg and RAW), tools, filters, resolution, backing up, layers, workflow, much more!

A total of six hours of instruction

8) Photoshop 201 (basic to intermediate): $209

4 seats leftBasic image manipulation. This class concentrates on how to manipulate an image and bring out the beauty you see in it. Give your photographs that "WOW" that they need. Topics covered: non-destructive editing, camera RAW modes, color correstion, sharpening, masking, saturation, contrast, perspective, dodging and burning, histogram, borders, text, image optimization, and so much more!

This class meets two times (three hours each time). Please ask if you want this class as a private session.

9) Photoshop 301 ( intermediate): $249

Advanced image manipulation. This class is for serious hobbyists to professionals who really want to go into depth.

Topics covered: LAB color mode, opaque and semi-transparent objects, removing the background, gradient maps and displacement maps, convert to a painting, why not to use the "blur" tool, photomontage and collage, HDR, alpha channels, custom brushes, vector and clipping paths, restore old photographs, more!

This class has not been scheduled for the July-August time period. Please ask if you want this class.


10) Photoshop 302 ( intermediate): $263

Advanced photographic workflow. Are things taking too long to complete? This class is for serious hobbyists to professionals who really want to make things happen quicker without sacrificing quality.

Topics covered: 16 bit vs 8 bit editing, actions and batch processing, 3rd party plugins, graphics tablests, advanced custom brushes, keyboard shortcuts, adding copyright info, file info, metadata, outsourcing.
